Subject [jira] [Commented] (HBASE-12337) Import tool fails with NullPointerException if clusterIds is not initialized
Date Wed, 19 Nov 2014 00:27:34 GMT

stack commented on HBASE-12337:
-------------------------------

This patch looks innocuous but when it ran on branch-1 with just this change it had below
fails after running clean for a good while:
{code}
Results :

Failed tests:
  TestReplicationEndpoint.testReplicationEndpointReturnsFalseOnReplicate:128 Waiting timed
out after [60,000] msec

Flaked tests:
org.apache.hadoop.hbase.client.TestMultiParallel.testActiveThreadsCount(org.apache.hadoop.hbase.client.TestMultiParallel)
  Run 1: TestMultiParallel.testActiveThreadsCount:161 expected:<5> but was:<4>
  Run 2: PASS
{code}

Also had a hanging test:

kalashnikov-13:hbase.git stack$ python ./dev-support/findHangingTests.py https://builds.apache.org/view/H-L/view/HBase/job/HBase-1.0/470/console
Fetching the console output from the URL
Printing hanging tests
Hanging test : org.apache.hadoop.hbase.master.balancer.TestBaseLoadBalancer
Printing Failing tests

> This was due to clusterIds not being initialized in setup() method:
> {code}
>       try {
>         zkw = new ZooKeeperWatcher(conf, context.getTaskAttemptID().toString(), null);
>         clusterIds = Collections.singletonList(ZKClusterId.getUUIDForCluster(zkw));
>       } catch (ZooKeeperConnectionException e) {
> {code}
> Instead of throwing NullPointerException from Import$Importer, Import should exit early
with proper message and exit code.
