Subject [jira] [Commented] (HBASE-10642) Add M/R over snapshots sample code to 0.94
Date Sat, 01 Mar 2014 03:00:21 GMT

Lars Hofhansl commented on HBASE-10642:

Hive only speaks mapred? That'd be a strong reason to add it.
And from an external viewpoint it'd be weird if there is a feature gap (completely agree with

If 0.96.2 was indeed the last 0.96 release, we can always delay until after that was released.
(so maybe 0.94.19).
Maybe the best approach is to document the possibility and for 0.94 point the documentation
to this jira, where then folks can down the standalone version (which works just fine without
any HBase changes).

Now it has become a big discussion :) And anything related to 0.96 is Stacks decision. Maybe
I jumped the gun again.

> I think we want drive towards all (or most) M/R over HBase to be against snapshots and
HDFS directly.
> Adopting a simple input format (even if just as a sample) as part of HBase will allow
us to direct users this way.
