Subject [jira] [Created] (HBASE-10382) HBase fails to start when hbase.rootdir contains a whitespace character
Date Mon, 20 Jan 2014 11:47:20 GMT
G G created HBASE-10382:
---------------------------

Summary: HBase fails to start when hbase.rootdir contains a whitespace character
                 Key: HBASE-10382
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-10382
             Project: HBase
          Issue Type: Bug
    Affects Versions: 0.96.0
            Reporter: G G

When hbase.rootdir contains a whitespace, e.g. when it is set to "C:\Program Files\..." then
HBase fails to start with the following exception being logged:

This does *not* apply to the hbase.zookeeper.property.dataDir property, which may contain
whitespace characters.

I tried using a workaround by providing the complete URL instead of a path name (e.g. file:/C:/Program%20Files/...)
but in this case %20 is not interpreted as a whitespace but literally, so that HBase creates
the path C:\Program%20Files\...".

Finally I was able to create a workaround by using DOS-style path names like C:\PROGRA~1\....
