Agreed. Thinking more about it that would be very complex in terms of semantics and implementation.

I guess we can alter my proposal above to make it so that Incr records count towards versions,
but the cells should have unlimited number of versions to work.

Another  option would be to enhance the IPC module to make the RPC server correctly identify
if the RPC is a retry attempt and handle accordingly.
