Francis Liu commented on HBASE-8015:

Never mind merit, this issue has it in spades, if this radical refactor is to make it into
0.95, the activity needs to pick up. For integration to happen, the patch needs to be freighted
w/ tests and migration code able to promptly move hbase from its current layout to namespace
layout. The patch when done should have a glow of confidence w/ ready answers for how to deal
with issues such as pre-existing tables that have a '.' in their name.
[~stack] Would we be able to get it in quicker with a feature branch? The reason I am asking
is because part of what's challenging about this enhancement is catching all the code which
makes assumption on path changes. And that will continue to grow until we provide the helper
functions to be used. We have an 0.94 version of this patch working in sandbox with active
users. So I believe basic functionality is working. The big thing missing is the migration
script (We don't use '.' in table names).
