FWIW if there was indeed dataloss caused by this, it would have been when recovering logs.
During normal operation that exception was retried until we're able to read the file.

bq. could you please try this patch out in your cluster.

It's not exactly a test cluster, more like prod-ish, so I'll put it on only one machine. I
assume it might take the whole day to hit the condition.
