stack commented on HBASE-2855:
------------------------------

As of yesterday, you can override configs by passing a -Dconfig.name="config.value"... you
might try specifying the zookeeper ensemble this way? (--master is no longer the way to go
since we added zk to them mix -- i changed the shell wiki page)

> The HBase Shell wiki page http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/Hbase/Shell states that there
is a command line switch {{--master=MASTER}} to specify a remote hbase master to connect to.
This command line option does, however, not exist. Instead, in order to connect to a remote
cluster, the user has to overwrite the shell variable {{$HBASE_CONFIG_DIR}} with the path
to the remote cluster's configuration files that have to be locally available.
> A command line switch would be better suited for this, since the user/developer then
would not have to write a XML config script.
