You can plug in your own implementation a memstore if that is what you mean. This is supported
from 1.0 onwards (i.e. not in a released version of HBase, yet, but soon).If you can decide
what to do at the time a data item is added you can also implement this via coprocessor hooks,
for that take a look at RegionObserver.java.
