I'd add that we should define what "stable" means. Currently 0.94 is the latest version of
HBase out there (that I know of at least) in large production installs.
To me that makes it the most stable version in terms of the number of unknown unknowns.
On the other hand we have fixed a bunch of known issues since 0.94, so 0.98 has fewer known
unknowns :)

It's time to switch the pointer to send a clear pointer to to have new folks start with 0.98
rather than 0.94.

Oh, suggest that if this release candidate makes it out, that we change the
stable pointer to point to this rather than the last 0.94.
