Even more, why do you want to re-implement that and not simply use ESRI on
top of your HDFS/HBase data? ESRI can even talk to Impala/Hive. I know it's
not HBase anymore, but since I don't have the details of your usecase,
don't know what's the best fit, so giving you options.
