I think it would be better to just set the value of the timestamp in the BatchUpdate instead
of returning it. An example of what could go wrong, starting in 0.19, the commit may just
be putting the BUs in a cache waiting for a flush, so what would it return in that case? 

The set should be done client side (current time if none provided).
