Thanks for the instant reply.  

I'm using v0.2.1 and it seems like TableReduce / TableOutputFormatter
reduce to BatchUpdate, not BatchOperation.

Can you not delete now?  Just add delete operations to the
BatchOperation you output from TableReduce (if using TableReduce)?

FYI, if you've not seen this document,
http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/Hbase/MapReduce, you should check it out
(Suggests that it can be better manipulating hbase HTable yourself
inside in your tasks).

Also, FYI, this kinda question better belongs up in the list rather than
inside in an issue; we're more likely to see your question there.
