Subject [jira] Commented: (HBASE-755) Add a method to retrieve the size and other information of a table
Date Tue, 22 Jul 2008 11:12:32 GMT

Daniel Yu commented on HBASE-755:

yes, using command line can gather the size in HDFS, im just wondering whether we can do this
in API, and not including the meta info dir.
for the number of splits, it's just a thought, we can have other information in metadata like
the counts of rows, columns etc.

im thinking about situations like in chained MR jobs, it's better to gather all the relative
infor from API , instead of calling shell commands, isnt it?

> Project: Hadoop HBase

> Components: client
> Affects Versions: 0.1.3
> Reporter: Daniel Yu
> it would be good to have a method to obtain the size of a table - the total bytes of
all HStore files in HDFS( hdfs://xxx/table name/column name/xxx/data),
> and maybe other information like the number of splits etc.
> i think it's a simple but (probably) important aspect to evaluate a table.
