Subject [jira] Commented: (HBASE-755) Add a method to retrieve the size and other information of a table
Date Mon, 21 Jul 2008 18:15:31 GMT

stack commented on HBASE-755:
-----------------------------

You probably already know this but,
{code}
$HADOOP_HOME/bin/hadoop fs -dus /HBASE.ROOTDIR
{code}
will give you the size an instance of hbase occupies on the filesytem (or '$HADOOP_HOME/bin/hadoop
fs -dus /HBASE.ROOTDIR/TABLENAME' if you want size of a particular table).

You think we should show this in the metadata info in the UI? The section which lists hbase
version, hbase.rootdir, etc?

Regards number of splits, where would you like to see this? Is it important? You can do a
grep/count over the master logs. What else would you like to see other than splits?

> it would be good to have a method to obtain the size of a table - the total bytes of
all HStore files in HDFS( hdfs://xxx/table name/column name/xxx/data),
> and maybe other information like the number of splits etc.
> i think it's a simple but (probably) important aspect to evaluate a table.
