No, should work ok on 2.4 (e.g. RHEL3) What are you compiling on?

The platforms we are using include:
 - Red Hat EL3 Update 5
 - Red Hat EL4 Update 1
 - SLES 9 SP1
(on Pentium III, Pentium 4, and Pentium Xeon processors).
