Sorry, I wasn't actually watching this defect.  I still don't like the test case.  I don't
really see why this test needs to be multithreaded.  See:

by a familiar author. ;-)

(Even if it does need to be threaded it should use wait/notify rather than sleeping arbitrary
amounts or busy waiting.)
