Catherine,  I've applied the fix in r926091.  I know I always complain about fixes without
regression tests but in this case I think running the regression test would be a little antisocial
so I've omitted that from the commit.

Please confirm that the fix has been applied as expected and close the JIRA if you hare happy
with my not committing the regression test.
