Subject [jira] Created: (HARMONY-1006) write barriers for C/C++ based GCs
Date Fri, 28 Jul 2006 11:36:14 GMT
write barriers for C/C++ based GCs
----------------------------------

                 Key: HARMONY-1006
                 URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HARMONY-1006
             Project: Harmony
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: Contributions
         Environment: DRLM + HARMONY-504
            Reporter: Alex Astapchuk
         Attachments: wb4c_jet.patch

Write barriers in jitrino.jet for C/C++ based GCs

The patch only presumes HARMONY-504 applied.
Note: HARMONY-816 (WBs for Java) is *not* required (and even may conflict).

Once the patch applied, Jitrino.JET will be always generating write barriers code.
To turn WBs generation off provide '-Xjit jet::nowb' in command line when starting VM.

Write barriers are generated for writing an object ref into field (PUTFIELD) and writing an
object into array (AASTORE) insturctions.
Writing into a static field (PUTSTATIC) will *not* invoke WB.
The code expects neither exception nor GC from inside the WB function.
