Sorry for late review. I just realized that you need to build with -U option. -U means force
update of dependencies. Frankly, few months ago, I was faced same problem while testing hadoop-2.5.0[1].
The reason was about local cached repository.

In my laptop, Hama trunk works well on hdfs of hadoop-2.5.1. Shall we close this issue? Anyway,
