Subject [jira] [Commented] (YARN-5180) Add ensureExecutionType boolean flag in ResourceRequest
Date Tue, 31 May 2016 22:21:12 GMT

Karthik Kambatla commented on YARN-5180:

Thanks for working on this, Arun.

# Would ExecutionTypeRequest be easier to understand for end-users compared to ExecutionSpec
or ExecutionTypeSpec.
# ResourceRequest: We missed this previously. The annotation for the the constructor that
takes this ExecutionTypeRequest should be Public-Evolving until we are sure it is stable.

# Also, since ResourceRequest is a Public-Stable class, let us mark the two abstract methods
non-abstract. It is okay to throw UnsupportedOperationException, if there is no obvious implementation
to maintain compatibility.
# Nit: ResourceRequestPBImpl: Two new lines between setPriority and getExecutionSpeck
# Now that the default is GUARANTEED and it is turned off by default, do we need to specify
the ExecutionType in MR?
# Should we just mark ExecutionTypeRequest class Public-Evolving and not bother marking the
methods? I hope it is okay to expose the newInstance method as Public-Evolving?

[~asuresh], [~kkaranasos] - By the way, I had filed YARN-5184 to fix a few of the compatibility
issues introduced by YARN-2882. Can you help identify other potential such incompatibility
issues for the OPPORTUNISTIC container APIs?

> Attachments: YARN-5180.001.patch, YARN-5180.002.patch
> YARN-2882 introduced the concept of *ExecutionTypes*.
> YARN-4335 allowed AMs to specify the ExecutionType in the ResourceRequest.
> This JIRA proposes to add a boolean flag to the ResourceRequest to signal to the Scheduler
that the AM is fine receiving a Container with a different Execution type than what is asked.
