-----------------------------------

Thanks for opening this JIRA and providing your thoughts [~Naganarasimha]!

The benefit is pretty clear because, as you mentioned, with this ability one can test both
v.1 and v.2 with a single cluster without restarting it (which would not be practical with
non-test clusters) and compare performance, data, etc.

On the other hand, there are a lot of details that need to be worked out for us to define
what we mean by this. Also, it would be a fair amount of work as the current code assumes
a binary choice between v.1 and v.2 in numerous places.

For example, what would we allow in terms of client behavior? Assuming both v.1 and v.2 are
enabled on the cluster, should clients still have ability to pick which version it would write
to (e.g. v.1 only, v.2 only, v.1 + v.2)?

Would that choice be defined at the level of the framework (e.g. MR, tez, etc.), or could
it be for individual jobs for a given framework?

> During rolling updgrade it will be helpfull to have the older version of the timeline
server to be also running so that the existing apps can submit to the older version of ATS
.
