Other minor nits:
# You should probably use {{Resources.NONE}} instead of creating {{Resource.newInstance(0,
0)}}
# Do you really need to subclass PlanningException to flag neg. subtraction. I would prefer
mentioning it in the error message, unless you want to specifically catch the exception somewhere
and do something specific.
