I agree this need fixing soon. We have a first draft of the patch, we were planning to test
it out carefully before posting it, but if you have cycles we can socialize it right-away
and we can work on it together.  
[~dedcode] please post the patch in its current state. [~ojoshi] you can check it out and
we can test/verify in the meantime.
