Using the environment variables works for other applications too.  That is the only way to
get some pieces of critical information that are needed for registration with the RM.  

On Windows there are limits

But they should not cause too much of an issue on Windows Server 2008 and above.

I would prefer for us to only return the information to the AM one way.  Either though thrift
or through the environment variable just so there is less confusion, but I am not adamant
