Replacing the string comparators with numerical comparators resolves the issue.

split a into b if name lt 'f', c if (name ge 'f' and name le 'h'), d if name gt 'h'; --parse
errors
split a into b if name lt 'f', c if (name >= 'f' and name <= 'h'), d if name gt 'h';
