You can get the hdfs file system as follows
            Configuration conf = new Configuration();
    conf.addResource(new
Path("/home/dpancras/TradeStation/CassandraPigHadoop/WebContent/WEB-INF/core-site.xml"));
    conf.addResource(new
Path("/home/dpancras/TradeStation/CassandraPigHadoop/WebContent/WEB-INF/hdfs-site.xml"));
    FileSystem fs = FileSystem.get(conf);
