zhoukang commented on MAPREDUCE-7107:
-------------------------------------

we found that NodeState is not forwards compatibility. Which may cause null value when work
with different version of client and server.
{code:java}
public static NodeStateProto valueOf(int value) { switch (value) { case 1: return NS_NEW;
case 2: return NS_RUNNING; case 3: return NS_UNHEALTHY; case 4: return NS_DECOMMISSIONED;
case 5: return NS_LOST; case 6: return NS_REBOOTED; default: return null; } }
{code}

>                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MAPREDUCE-7107
>             Project: Hadoop Map/Reduce
>          Issue Type: Bug
>    Affects Versions: 2.7.3
>            Reporter: Gonzalo Herreros
>            Priority: Major
>
> On AWS, running a MapReduce job, one of the nodes died and was decommissioned.
> However, the AM doesn't seem to handle that well and the job didn't complete mappers
correctly from there.
