> MapReduce often manipulates files/permissions to ensure splits, dependencies, and other
user data are consistently managed. Unit tests of these internal methods sometimes set up
temporary hierarchies in a scratch directory on the local FS to exercise these modules. However,
dev environment quirks (e.g., umask) can cause these tests to fail spuriously. Instead, this
logic should be validated by mocking the filesystem.
