Thanks, [~kkambatl].  I can start that thread later today to clarify policy and update the
text accordingly.

For this specific patch, I suppose another other option is to gate use of the new command
syntax behind a client-side config flag.  Then, clients can turn on the flag only after they
know their clusters have been upgraded.  That's a compatible solution that avoids protocol
impacts entirely, but it pushes some complexity on to the end user to turn on the flag.
