The patch looks good to me too.  But it is a complex enough change that I don't feel comfortable
committing it myself, I think Arun or Mahadev should look at the patch.

Also could you look at the TestJobCounters test failure.  It looks like the failure is sporadic,
and not related to this patch, but I could not find an existing JIRA for it.  Could you at
least file a new JIRA for it?
