Subject [jira] Commented: (HIVE-777) CREATE TABLE with STRUCT type
Date Thu, 20 Aug 2009 19:27:14 GMT

Zheng Shao commented on HIVE-777:
---------------------------------

@hive-777-2009-8-29.patch: Shall we support "STRUCT<adid:INT,location:STRING>" or "STRUCT<adid
INT,location STRING>"?

The first one is consistent with the internal way of representing types, while the second
one looks more like "create type", but "struct<...>" syntax is from internal type representation
as well as "array<...>" and "map<...>".
I am biased towards the first one.

> Currently we only support map/array in type definition.
> We should support STRUCT as well.
> {code}
> CREATE TABLE abc (
>   pageid INT,
>   ads STRUCT<adid:INT,location:STRING>,
>   userid INT
> );
> {code}
