Subject [jira] Commented: (HIVE-188) hive CLI should quit when stdout is closed
Date Fri, 19 Dec 2008 03:13:44 GMT

Joydeep Sen Sarma commented on HIVE-188:

interesting bug. i guess this affects any place where we call println() - but probably this
is the most significant one. Hadoop FSShell (for example) seems to go throw a common library
for all printstream IO

> bin/hive -e 'select * from a_big_table;' | head
> The process does not end after printing out the first 10 lines.
> This is probably because System.out.println is not checking errors. We need to manually
call boolean System.out.checkError() to know if the output is closed or not.
