Subject [jira] Commented: (HIVE-107) Case structure for bin hive
Date Mon, 08 Dec 2008 19:10:44 GMT

Raghotham Murthy commented on HIVE-107:

Can you add a --help option in the bin/hive script since running hive without options directly
runs the cli? Also, Hive-73 has already been committed. So, can you add another service -

There seem to be the following kinds of configuration parameters:
1. --auxpath, --config (others?) - parsed directly by shell script for all services
2. HADOOP_HOME, HIVE_OPT (others?) - used directly by shell script for all services
3. parameters/env variables/conf files specific to particular services

"bin/hive --help" should show (1) and (2) above. Then, "bin/hive --service <service-name>"
(or should this just be "bin/hive <service-name>" like in hadoop or "bin/hive <service-name>
--help" ?) should print out all of (3). We could define a standard interface for all services
atleast for help messages.

> Hive Web Server Hive-30 and the Hive Thrift Server Hive-78 both are started with the
bin/hive file. We should have a base bin/hive with case structure so add ons can patch from
