Thanks [~hanishakoneru] for the patch. It looks good to me overall. Here are my comments.
 # Can we document the volume metadata structure (like version file, etc) and state formally
along with the code?
 # TestVolumeSet#testVolumeInInconsistentState need to clean up the volume3 dir created after
the test so that other tests in the same suite can have a clean setup.
