Subject [jira] [Commented] (HDFS-6956) Allow dynamically changing the tracing level in Hadoop servers
Date Fri, 26 Sep 2014 17:21:34 GMT

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-6956?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14149667#comment-14149667

stack commented on HDFS-6956:

bq. ...I think the most usual configuration to trace HBase + HDFS would be to configure HDFS
to use....
bq. ...It seems simpler to set those up separately in case a span receiver already exists
on HDFS....

Makes sense. Can revisit if praxis dictates this postulated facility is actually necessary.

Took a look at the patch. LGTM. +1.

> We should allow users to dynamically change the tracing level in Hadoop servers. The
easiest way to do this is probably to have an RPC accessible only to the superuser that changes
tracing settings. This would allow us to turn on and off tracing on the NameNode, DataNode,
etc. at runtime.
