Subject [jira] [Commented] (HDFS-6469) Coordinated replication of the namespace using ConsensusNode

Todd Lipcon commented on HDFS-6469:
-----------------------------------

bq. Total of 12 nodes, but with only one being actively used by clients.

That's not the recommended setup. Most of our customers collocate JNs, NNs, and even ZK --
so on five nodes you'd typically have:
1) NN + JN + ZK
2) SB NN + JN + ZK
3) RM + JN + ZK
4) SB RM + JN + ZK
5 ZK + JN

So, I'm not sure that argument holds much water.

> This is a proposal to introduce ConsensusNode - an evolution of the NameNode, which enables
replication of the namespace on multiple nodes of an HDFS cluster by means of a Coordination
Engine.
