Thanks for the review, Chris.  I'm going to put out a new version in a sec with the test cleanups,
and with try... finally in the test.

I guess I'll bring up the try... finally issue on the mailing list at some point, and see
what people think.  In the meantime, I'd like to get this in soon so we can continue testing...
