Alejandro Abdelnur edited comment on HDFS-5703 at 1/21/14 11:24 PM:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

[~daryn], HttpFS is not a proxy, it is a gateway:

{code}
(client) ---[HTTP/S]---> (HttpFS, uses 'FileSystem impl' client) ---[impl client/server
protocol]---> ('FileSystem impl' server)
{code}
In the case of working against HDFS:

{code}
(client) ---[HTTP/S]---> (HttpFS, uses 'DFSFileSystem impl') ---[Hadoop RPC]---> (HDFS)
{code}

HttpFS does not use any internal classes from HDFS, thus we have to create the token WebHdfsFileSystem
client expects.
