Milind Bhandarkar commented on HDFS-5324:
-----------------------------------------

Most of the work on this patch has been done by Abhijeet Apsunde, Satish Gopalani, and Manasi
Kamble. Thanks to Sameer Tiwari for doing initial code review, and valuable suggestions. The
initial HBase-based implementation of namespace is not included in this patch. (Also, we did
an implementation of current FSNameSystem, but hosted it in a separate JVM. That is also not
included in this patch.)

> For the last couple of months, we have been working on making Namespace
> implementation in the namenode pluggable. We have demonstrated that it can
> be done without major surgery on the namenode, and does not have noticeable
> performance impact. We would like to contribute it back to Apache HDFS.
