Colin, please read my suggestion and my analysis of the difference before commenting.

The simplified API absolutely provides a means to releasing the ByteBuffer and yet it is 2
lines long instead of 20. Furthermore, I didn't even realize that I was supposed to close
the zero copy cursor, since it just came in from closable.

My complaint stands. The API as currently in this branch is very error-prone and difficult
to explain. Using it is difficult and requires complex handling including exception handlers
to handle arbitrary file systems.
