Subject [jira] [Commented] (HDFS-4772) Add number of children in HdfsFileStatus
Date Sun, 14 Jul 2013 21:44:48 GMT

Brandon Li commented on HDFS-4772:
----------------------------------

HdfsFileStatus only can be part of the response, not request, from HDFS to the client (correct
me if I missed anything here). Using 0 is convenient since HDFS just needs to change it only
when the inode is a directory with children inode before sending the response.

However, if HdfsFileStatus could become part of the request to HDFS in the future, using -1
as default value is a better option to avoid confusion.

> This JIRA is to track the change to return the number of children for a directory, so
the client doesn't need to make a getListing() call to calculate the number of dirents. This
makes it convenient for the client to check directory size change.
