Subject [jira] [Commented] (HDFS-2866) Standby does not start up due to a gap in transaction id
Date Thu, 02 Feb 2012 02:17:54 GMT

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-2866?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13198475#comment-13198475

Aaron T. Myers commented on HDFS-2866:

bq. I would appreciate if hdfs-2874 is closed as a dup of this one.

But they're distinct issues. In this JIRA, the NNs were effectively configured with two shared
edits dirs, although only one was configured as being shared. A single failover caused a problem.
In HDFS-2874, there's only one shared dir (i.e. correct configuration) but on a failover and
failback, the once-active NN may read from the local dir and not the shared dir first, and
thus end up with overlapping ranges of transactions.

You can obviously leave open both HDFS-2865 and HDFS-2866 if you want, but they seem like
the same issue to me.

> Priority: Critical
> Standby notices a gap in the transaction id in the shared.edits directory. The transactions
in dfs.edits.dir does not seem to have the gap. The gap happens during a failover.
