Subject [jira] [Updated] (HDFS-2129) Simplify BlockReader to not inherit from FSInputChecker

Todd Lipcon updated HDFS-2129:
------------------------------

    Attachment: hdfs-2129.txt

Rebased on trunk again. Added a simple pool for direct byte buffers.

The performance difference from this patch alone isn't large, but it allows us to make use
of the native checksum code, which, when combined with the CRC32C SSE code in another JIRA,
makes a sizable difference.

This patch includes a flag to fall back to the "legacy" implementation. I've been running
sort workloads for a week or so with this patch and not seen any issues.

> BlockReader is currently quite complicated since it has to conform to the FSInputChecker
inheritance structure. It would be much simpler to implement it standalone. Benchmarking indicates
it's slightly faster, as well.
