Yes, my opinion is that all patches should go into trunk first. The exceptions would be:
- if the patch makes no sense on trunk, since it's superceded by another implementation or
already fixed by some other JIRA (eg the 0.20-append stuff is superceded by the new impl on
trunk, and many MR patches no longer make sense with MR2)
- if the contributor commits to getting it into trunk within a very close timeline. For example,
I'd be OK with this going in 0.20.205 if the patch authors commit to getting a finished patch
available for trunk by the end of the following week. If this doesn't end up happening, then
I'll be less likely to be OK with such an exception next time :)
