No, the plan is not to get rid of native RPC. There is a proposal for wire compatibility (I
am working on it) but till we have
delivered compatibility across two releases it does not count. Further HTTP has the advantage
that it does not
require a hadoop client library - this is very useful for some applications. Further it will
help us write a much better 
Fuse module that does not depend on libhdfs. You were one of the folks pushing HTTP rw and
file ranges when at Yahoo. It made sense then and still makes sense.
