Milind Bhandarkar commented on HDFS-2284:
-----------------------------------------

Nicholas,

HFTP came about because HDFS protocols were not wire compatible across versions (and distcp
needed to work across HDFS versions to copy data from one HDFS cluster to another.) Since
there is a proposal to guarantee wire compatibility in HDFS, what value does full http-based
interface add ?

Is the plan to get rid of the native RPC for HDFS and replace it with HTTP(s) ?

Or would both these protocols co-exist, and will have to be maintained independently ?
