Subject [jira] Commented: (HDFS-1150) Verify datanodes' identities to clients in secure clusters

Todd Lipcon commented on HDFS-1150:
-----------------------------------

What about the case where root access is not available for jsvc but a secure cluster is required?
There are other ways to secure the high port - eg you can use SELinux or AppArmor to restrict
the ability to bind port 50010 to user "hdfs".

I think this jsvc approach is a reasonable one, but it's not one-size-fits-all, and given
there are reasonably simple external ways to get the same security, it should be a configurable
requirement.

> Currently we use block access tokens to allow datanodes to verify clients' identities,
however we don't have a way for clients to verify the authenticity of the datanodes themselves.
