Subject [jira] Commented: (HDFS-974) FileSystem.Statistics should include NN accesses from the clients
Date Fri, 12 Feb 2010 23:02:28 GMT

Todd Lipcon commented on HDFS-974:
----------------------------------

Sort of reasonable :) So, LocalFileSystem would increment these statistics for listStatus,
etc, as well?

The question is how to distinguish a reasonable innocuous RPC like getStatus() on a single
file, compared to a really heavy one like listStatus() on a dir with 10K files. Doing this
in a general way cross-filesystems is a bit tough.

> It is a very useful metric to track, we can track per-task and hence per-job stats through
Counters etc.
