Subject [jira] Commented: (HDFS-974) FileSystem.Statistics should include NN accesses from the clients
Date Sat, 13 Feb 2010 21:44:28 GMT

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-974?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12833460#action_12833460

Arun C Murthy commented on HDFS-974:

bq. So, LocalFileSystem would increment these statistics for listStatus, etc, as well?

Of course, LocalFileSystem already does that for bytes read/written in FileSystem.Statistics.

bq. The question is how to distinguish a reasonable innocuous RPC like getStatus() on a single
file, compared to a really heavy one like listStatus() on a dir with 10K files. Doing this
in a general way cross-filesystems is a bit tough.

Patches welcome.

> It is a very useful metric to track, we can track per-task and hence per-job stats through
Counters etc.
