Subject [jira] Commented: (HDFS-753) HDFS allows delete of read only files and directories
Date Fri, 06 Nov 2009 19:16:32 GMT

Tsz Wo (Nicholas), SZE commented on HDFS-753:
---------------------------------------------

> isn't it the case that we need write access to a directory D to be able to delete a file/dir
inside D? ...

That is true. Deleting a file/directory requires the w permission on the parent directory
(and, of course, x on the path). The file/directory's permission setting is irrelevant.

> Add a file or directory to HDFS, and chmod it to be read only. Then execute a delete
and the file will be deleted.
